Transportation Coordination Initiative

5th Bi-Annual Transportation Coordination meeting - April 27, 2012

In 2009, Work Without Limits partnered with the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) in sponsoring a forum to bring national transportation expertise into the communities and provide information, training and technical assistance to stakeholders working to improve mobility for transportation-disadvantaged populations including people with disabilities, the elderly and people with low income in Massachusetts.

The CTAA held the Massachusetts Institute for Transportation Coordination, a 3-day planning forum and workshop in October, 2009. Multi-stakeholder regional and local teams formed to address their communities’ most urgent transportation access problems and unmet needs.

Participating teams were geographically diverse and included members of public and private transit providers, planning agencies, workforce investment boards, chambers of commerce, human service providers, employers, local governments, state agencies, and people with disabilities (see map below).

The goal of the Institute was for each team to create 90-day and 12-month action plans to work towards solutions. Since 2009, WWL has provided networking, information sharing, and learning opportunities to team members through bi-annual meetings and other training events. Our teams also receive technical assistance from national transportation experts at CTAA and from the United We Ride Region I Ambassador. Since 2009, our transportation teams have created new alliances and brought new services to the communities.
