A Work Without Limits
Employment Network Success Story

I wanted to find a job that truly fulfilled my heart and soul. After more than 25 years receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), I was determined to leave Social Security behind and reenter the workforce.

Support

With resources provided by Social Security and MassAbility, I was able to return to school and earn an Associate of Science degree in Human Services from Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA.

After graduating, the Social Security office connected me with Work Without Limits, and their support made all the difference. They helped me navigate paperwork, attend job fairs, and provided encouragement during the bumpiest moments.

Job Search

Searching for the right job was challenging. I needed work that didn’t require long hours of standing and offered pay and hours that fit my needs. I started with part-time work to test the waters, but along the way I experienced a relapse with anxiety and other mental health challenges. I refused to give up. I brushed myself off, kept moving forward, put in the time and effort.

Hired

Through perseverance, I found the job of my dreams at LUK, Inc., a social service agency dedicated to improving the lives of youth and their families. The organization values a healthy work-life balance and genuinely cares about its employees. They understand and support people with disabilities, and for the first time, I truly feel like I belong.

Goals

  • I'm a Family Partner right now. I'd like to work my way up to be an Intensive Care Coordinator.
  • I would like to go back to school for my bachelor’s degree.
